Downsizing

The Art of Zen Downsizing

What is The Art of Zen Downsizing?

I’ve been working as a professional home organiser with Time Ninja for a while now, but a recent project felt very personal. I’ve been helping my lovely mother-in-law with some “gentle downsizing.”
What struck me was her motivation—she is still so energetic and was keen to start now, on her own terms, while she has the vitality to enjoy the process. We didn’t just “clear out” rooms; we sat down with tea, shared stories, and carefully curated her treasures for her next chapter. 🌿
It made me wonder—is there a need for this kind of “thoughtful” support in our Surrey community? Beyond my usual fast-paced organising for busy families, I’m thinking of offering a slower, more mindful service: The Art of Zen Downsizing. This is for those living in large homes filled with decades of memories, who might feel it’s time to “edit” their space but don’t want to be rushed or pressured by family. I’d love to bring my Japanese-inspired care to help you reclaim your space and find peace in your surroundings.
Would anyone be interested in a chat? I’d love to hear your thoughts. No pressure, no rush—just a friendly conversation over a cup of tea to see how we could support your journey. 🫖✨

How do we start?

1. A Gentle Introduction

We will visit you at your home for a quiet chat over a cup of tea. This is a time for us to get to know each other, and for you to show me your space at your own pace.

2. Finding Your Rhythm

If you feel we are a good match, we will look at our diaries and pencil in a date that suits you best. There is never any pressure to commit.

3. Thoughtful Check-in

A few days before our scheduled session, we will check in with you to ensure you are still feeling happy and ready to proceed. Your comfort is my priority.

4. Guided with Care

On the day, we will gently guide you on where to start. We work as your dedicated assistant, supporting you in exactly the way you wish to be helped.

5. Taking the Weight off Your Shoulders

After our session, we can take away the items you have chosen to let go of, so you can enjoy your refreshed space immediately.

  • Self-Disposal: If you prefer to handle the disposal yourself, a small credit will be applied to your session fee.

  • Large Items: Please note that for large furniture or volumes exceeding a standard car load, we can help you arrange a professional removal service (additional fees would apply).

Promise to You

We will be by your side as your calm, supportive partner. We will never ask you to get rid of anything. Every decision remains yours; we are simply there to hold the space and handle the details.

Flexible Support

To maintain a peaceful and steady progress, we offer sessions on a weekly, fortnightly, or monthly basis.

Investment & Pricing for Your Peace of Mind

  • Initial Zen Session: £150 (Minimum 3 hours of gentle, focused support)

  • Extended Care: £20 per additional 30 minutes

Note: A 3-hour session is our standard minimum to ensure we have enough time for a calm, unhurried experience—including that all-important cup of tea and conversation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I have to throw things away?

A: Not at all. My role is not to tell you what to discard, but to help you decide what is truly worth keeping for your next chapter. Every decision is entirely yours; I am simply here to provide a calm, supportive structure for those choices.

Q: I’m worried about my privacy. Will my neighbours know what we are doing?

A: Discretion is at the heart of my service. I operate with the utmost privacy, and to your neighbours, I am simply a personal assistant or a visiting friend. Your stories and your home remain strictly confidential.

Q: My family wants me to move faster, but I’m not ready to let go of everything yet.

A: This is exactly why The Art of Zen Downsizing exists. We work at your pace, not anyone else’s. My focus is on your emotional well-being, ensuring you feel empowered and in control of your own home, without any outside pressure.

Q: What happens to the items I decide to let go of?

A: I can take away smaller items in my vehicle after our session. I always prioritise finding a meaningful second life for your treasures, such as donating them to local charities in Woking where they will be appreciated. For larger furniture, I can help you arrange professional collection services.

Q: Do I need to “tidy up” before you arrive?

A: Please, don’t feel the need to! I am here to meet you exactly where you are. We start with a cup of tea and a conversation—there is no judgment, only a shared goal of creating a more peaceful space for you.
